Mystery Year

For those of you who follow both Carrie's blog and mine, you know we're taking a class together. I'm inspired by her Monday post to offer my own challenge.

The assignment is to choose a particular year, and without telling the year, write about it using cultural references. Here are the references that stood out for me:

An actor is elected president.

Sandra Day O'Connor becomes the first female justice of the Supreme Court.

Prince Charles and Lady Diana get married.

The first American test tube baby is born.

"Endless Love" by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie is a hit.

Mork and Mindy get married.

"Internet", "Post-its", and "AIDS" become part of the American lexicon.

Luke and Laura get married.

Princess Diana announces her first pregnancy, on my birthday.

GREAT list! I didn't realize that was the beginning of the Internet! MORK AND MINDY - OMHOG on that one, and I was RIGHT there for Luke and Laura! Thank you for the stroll down Memory Lane!

This is terrific! I still don't know what year it is (because I am time challenged and would have to look it up); however, I was there and I know whereof you speak.

This is the eighties, right? I'm gonna go with 1988! LOL (but I don't really know because I was born in 83)

I remember all those things. Talking to my youngest about Mork and Mindy the other day - how Jonathan Winters was their son.

I am guessing the eighties?? But like Jessica I was not very old in the eighties. I was born in the late seventies. So my take on the world in the eighties is pretty faded! LOL I don't think I was big into current events back then :)

I want to know why you chose 1981 for your story.

Ugg-Deletion?

80 or 81? Remember watching the big wedding and what an event that was. Nanoo-Nanoo to you.

Dang those TV references! I didn't have a TV until I was in college (and even then it was my roommate's and we watched what she wanted to) so I feel so woefully lost sometimes....

Amazing to see what disparate things happened but are lumped together simply because they occurred in the same year!
