I won. During his efforts to get it cut and installed correctly, he complained about how a metal one would have been so much easier. Finally, a few days after completion, he said he didn't quite understand my wanting the wood. Then he added,"It makes a great sound when it closes."

I could only smile.Midlife Roadtripperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06700277803842883251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3323372985310307718.post-84063241766379509512010-02-09T12:49:26.219-08:002010-02-09T12:49:26.219-08:00Glad it was merely a squirrel and not a skunk!

My paternal grandparents were river people, living what we would now term an alternative lifestyle in a very simply constructed building with screen doors. The sound of the doors are part of what I loved about the place, as well as creaking stairs, a woodstove, the smell of woodsmoke and sound of jumping fish and flapping pelican wings...but the screen doors, that relaxing sound of comings and goings, so long ago now. No squirrels of course, just cheeky possums, koalas and kookaburras.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3323372985310307718.post-16823822837553385132010-02-06T16:34:24.368-08:002010-02-06T16:34:24.368-08:00We have to take all our screen doors off for the w...We have to take all our screen doors off for the winter, otherwise we'd never get out of the house when the snow accumulates! I had to do some renovating about 2 years ago and I bought a new front door. It is beautiful with stained glass --just enough in the middle. The first day it was installed, I got up in the night several times just to go to the stairway to look at it and I always went across the street just before I went up to bed to see it with the light shining through.Berniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10189300487828240620noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3323372985310307718.post-82711680441277173142010-02-05T19:21:09.923-08:002010-02-05T19:21:09.923-08:00I get it about the wooden screen door.
